What is a shower sex toy?

A shower sex toy is a toy built to get wet: a waterproof vibrator, a dildo with a suction cup base that holds to smooth tile, or a toy that runs on the water itself. It lets you bring play into the shower or bath without worrying about the motor.

Water changes how sex works. It rinses away natural lubrication and washes water-based lube off fast, and footing is less steady. A toy that does the work while you brace against the wall makes shower play easier, and it doubles as solo time that fits into a routine you already have.

The useful fact: "waterproof" is not one standard. IPX7 means the toy can be fully submerged, so it is fine in a bath. IPX6 and splashproof toys handle shower spray but should not go under water. Check the rating on each listing before it goes in the tub.

Types of shower sex toys

The toys that work best wet:

  • Bullet vibrators: small, sealed and easy to hold with wet hands. Most are submersible, which makes them the easiest toys to take into the bath.
  • Rabbit vibrators: internal and clitoral stimulation in one waterproof body. Good for solo shower play when you want both without juggling two toys.
  • Pressure wave toys: air pulse on the clitoris in sealed, waterproof bodies that handle the bath as well as the shower.
  • Couples vibrators: worn during sex, so neither of you needs a free hand. Useful when both hands are on the wall.
  • Suction cup dildos: the base sticks to smooth tile or glass for hands-free riding. Body-safe silicone is the easiest to clean afterward.
  • Vibrating cock rings: waterproof rings that add vibration for both partners during shower sex.

How to choose the right one

If you want to use it in the bath: check for IPX7 or "fully submersible." IPX6 and splashproof toys are fine in the shower spray but not under water.

If you want hands-free play: pick a suction cup dildo or a wearable couples vibrator. Suction cups hold best on smooth, dry tile, so press it on before the water hits that spot.

If you are choosing lube: use a silicone formula. Water rinses water-based lube away quickly. Silicone lube lasts longer in water but can damage silicone toys, so pair it with glass, metal or ABS toys, or test it on a small spot first. Shop silicone lube.

If you are new to shower sex: start with positions that keep your feet planted. Our guide to shower sex positions covers the ones that work on wet tile, plus grip and safety tips.

Whatever you pick: rinse and dry it fully before storing, and make sure the charging port is dry before you plug it in.
