If you have never worn a plug: buy a plain one first. A tail adds weight and drag to a size you have not tested yet, and finding out both things at once is how a tail ends up in a drawer. The butt plugs page is the place to work that out.
If you already know your size: go one step down for a long tail. The pull of a heavy tail makes an identical plug feel like more than it did without one. The longest tails tend to sit at the wider end of the sizes too, so it is both things at once.
If you want to style it: a unicorn tail. Synthetic hair braids, twists and plaits and holds the shape, so one tail can be worn several different ways. Fur does none of that.
If it is for Pride or a party: a rainbow banded tail. Six colors in order on a plain plug, so the tail does all the talking. The rest of the Pride collection is next door.
If it is for photographs: length and an ears set. A long fox or wolf tail and a matching headband read instantly on camera, where a short pom mostly does not.
If you want to wear it for a while: a bunny pom. Short and light, so there is far less constant downward pull to manage across an evening.
If the sensation matters as much as the look: go vibrating. It is the version that does something on its own rather than waiting for you to move.
On lube and material: water based with a silicone plug. Silicone lube degrades silicone, and the rectum makes none of its own, so use more than feels reasonable. Anything from anal lubricants is built thicker for this.
On care: wash the plug, keep the tail dry. Brush fur out and air dry it. Use gentle shampoo and conditioner on a hair tail and skip the heat. Store either one hanging or flat rather than stuffed in a drawer.
