Smoking Accessories

Smoking accessories are everything around the flower itself: the grinder, the pipe, the tray, the storage. This is the whole head shop side of the store in one place, from rolling trays and ashtrays to glass, grinders and stash gear.

What is a smoking accessory?

A smoking accessory is anything in the ritual that is not the flower. The grinder that breaks it down, the pipe or the papers you smoke it out of, the tray you do it on, and the jar it lives in between times.

They get bought as a set because each piece fixes the problem the last one created. Grinding by hand is uneven and sticky, so you buy a grinder. Grinding without a tray means losing half of it into a couch, so you buy a tray. It only ever compounds in one direction.

The piece most people skip is the tray, and it is the cheapest thing on the list. A tray with a raised lip catches what falls, which adds up to a real amount over a year, and it puts the whole setup in one place instead of four. It is also the single item that makes the rest look deliberate rather than scattered across a coffee table.

Types of smoking accessories

The head shop side breaks into sections you can go straight to:

  • Weed grinders: four-stage metal grinders with a kief catcher underneath. The one piece that changes how everything else performs.
  • Glass pipes and bowls: spoon pipes, ceramic, silicone and freezable glycerin. Nothing to roll and nothing to run out of.
  • Rolling papers: hemp, rice and wood pulp, plus cones and tips. The consumable half of the category.
  • Stash jars and bags: airtight jars for the shelf, lined bags for everything that leaves the house.
  • Rolling trays and ashtrays: the flat surface the rest of it happens on. Look for a raised lip and enough width to work on without crowding.
  • Stoner sex toys: the half of this shop that is not a head shop at all. Cannabis-themed vibrators, strokers, plugs and a glow-in-the-dark bondage line.

Everything above sits together in the 420 shop, which is also where the gift sets and bundles live.

How to choose the right one

If you are starting from nothing: grinder, tray, and one thing to smoke out of. Those three cover it. Everything else on this page is an upgrade to one of them.

If you are upgrading one piece: make it the grinder. A better grinder improves every session. A better ashtray improves none of them.

On trays: buy for the lip and the width. A flat board with no edge does not catch anything, and a tray too small to work on is a tray you stop using.

Glass or silicone: decide by where it lives. Glass for the shelf at home, silicone for anything that goes in a bag. That is the entire decision.

If discretion is the concern: the storage is what solves it, not the pipe. A lined bag does more for smell than any accessory choice you make upstream of it.

If it is a gift: build a small set rather than buying one nice thing. A grinder, a container and one novelty piece covers function, storage and the joke. Three variations on the same object does not.
