What is a sexual wellness product?

A sexual wellness product supports the health and comfort side of sex rather than the pleasure side. Hygiene, pelvic floor strength, recovery and cleaning all sit here, and most people buy from this category long before they think of it as a category at all.

Grouping them is worth doing because these products solve the problems that stop sex from being good, and no toy fixes any of them. Dryness. Pain on penetration. Irritation that appeared out of nowhere. A pelvic floor that stopped cooperating after a baby. A toy that was never properly cleaned. Every one of those has a cheap answer on this page.

The single most useful thing to know: fragrance is the most common cause of irritation in this whole category, and it is doing nothing for you. Scented washes, scented wipes and flavored anything are more likely to disrupt vaginal pH than improve it. Unscented and pH balanced is not the boring option, it is the correct one.

Types of sexual health & wellness

This page is the hub. Each of these is its own aisle inside it.

  • Kegel Balls and Dilators: pelvic floor trainers, stone eggs and graduated dilator sets in medical grade silicone. The tools a pelvic floor PT actually means.
  • Period Management: menstrual cups, leakproof underwear, drug free cramp relief and pH balanced comfort products for the whole week.
  • Postpartum: recovery care for after birth, from hot and cold compresses through to depth limiting rings and dilators.
  • Personal Hygiene and Intimate Care: unscented washes, wipes, sprays and shave care for everyday comfort rather than for a specific event.
  • Toy Cleaners: dedicated cleaners for silicone, glass and steel. Faster than soap and water, and they travel better.

How to choose the right one

If you are starting from nothing: an unscented wash and a dedicated toy cleaner. Those two cover the everyday hygiene that most complaints in this category trace back to, and neither one takes any learning.

If you are getting irritated and cannot work out why: drop everything scented first. Fragrance, flavor, warming and tingling are the usual culprits, and removing them costs nothing.

If a doctor or pelvic floor PT sent you here: buy the graduated set, not a single size. Progression is the method, and stopping to reorder halfway through is how people lose the habit.

If you own silicone toys: a dedicated cleaner, and never a silicone lubricant on a silicone toy. Silicone bonds to silicone and degrades the surface, which is how a good toy turns tacky and porous.

On materials generally: non porous only, which means medical grade silicone, glass or stainless steel. Porous materials cannot be fully sanitized, whatever you clean them with.
